Abstract:

One of the main problems in the military sphere, faced the Bulgarian state during the first months of free life, is the need for trained officers who gradually to replace their Russian teachers in the leadership and command of the army of Principality of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia. At that time, only one of the great powers, Russia gives admission for the Bulgarians to its higher military academies and schools. The most renowned educational establishment in the Russian military education system is the Nicholas Academy of the General Staff in St. Petersburg. During 1879 and 1885 in the Academy learned a significant number of Bulgarian youths who will be a subject in this publication.
