Abstract:

For the revolutionary period of Captain Petko Voivoda (1861–1879) there are a large number of historical sources. They are stored in the archives in Sofia, Varna, Smolyan, Plovdiv and Rousse. According to their character, they are divided into the following groups: letters from and to Captain Petko Voivoda; testimonies; thanksgiving addresses, English documents; other documents and materials. In a separate group there are detached memories and legends of Petko Voivoda’s contemporaries, which supplement the information about his activity. Some of them became known during the voivode’s life. His biographers published famous documents, which serve as evidence of his revolutionary struggle.
