Abstract:

The article deals with the contemporary interpretation of embroidery as an element of Bulgarian traditional and modern clothing presented at the First Embroidery Festival in Beloslav. Reports from the field work, conducted during the festival (9 September 2017), convincingly show a growing interest of lovers and professionals in embroidery. The festival has not been studied so far, because it is the first of its kind. A second edition under the title ‘The cult of the mother and votive offerings for fertility’ took place in 2018. Many festivals aim to preserve traditions, but a festival dedicated to embroidery was held for the first time. More and more interesting interpretations of Bulgarian traditional clothing elements will be made in the future, and this is only a matter of personal imagination.
