Abstract:

At the beginning of the 7th century, the Bulgars established their state in the region of North Caucasus. This state has remained in history as Old Great Bulgaria. The kind of statehood they actually set up, however, is still uncertain. According to some scholars, it was not a real state. On the other hand, there are studies that allow us to investigate the problem in depth. By means of some anthropological and sociological research, combined with historical knowledge, we try to make a hypothesis on this subject. This is more like an attempt for contribution, but not only with well-known historical facts. In this paper, we present some definitions of statehood and its development. At the end, we seek to find new arguments on the topic by using a comparative method.
