Abstract:

The presented paper is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of my teacher in ethnographic studies Assoc. Prof. Nikolay Kolev. The author discusses the text of a love letter written in the town of Osman Pazar, today’s Omurtag, on 24th of September 1902, information about its author and a photograph of his, as well as the continuation of the love story and the lovers’ fortune. This love letter is just a little element of the mosaic, which describes the past of old Osman Pazar. The text of the letter and the photographs of its author could help in the attempts at understanding and feeling the inner peace of the one-time town dwellers. By publications like this one and the promotion of such kind of documents, the Bulgarian society of the beginning of the 20th century will stop being associated today only with a lot of dates and names of politicians, and it will be “populated“ with the faces, the cordial delights and torments of common people.
