Abstract:
The article aims to briefly examine the policy of the Roman Catholic Church in the Balkans in order to draw a parallel between the relations of Rome with the Serbs in comparison with those with the Bulgarians. It is noted in the paper that the aim of the Roman Church was to expand the papal influence over the Balkan Peninsula and respectively over the Eastern Christian Church. The study traces and analyses the most important moments in the relations between Serbia and Bulgaria, on the one hand, and their negotiations with the Papacy, on the other, in the period from 1204 until 1219.
