Abstract:
The article examines the topic of robbery and haiduty in the Bulgarian lands under Ottoman rule in the XV–XVII centuries. Based on the travel notes and diaries of European diplomats, merchants and travelers who passed through the Bulgarian lands, the answer to the questions is sought: Are robbers and hajduts the same category of persons? What is their social and national affiliation? What is their activity and against whom is it directed? What is the attitude of the official Ottoman government and the Bulgarian people towards the robbers and haiduts?
