Abstract:

This article explores the impact of the First World War (1914–1918) on the psyche of the British women at the battle front and on the home front. It examines the origin and nature of the problem, presenting the various types of trauma and mental illness that arose as a result of the war, their symptoms and negative effects. Other issues affecting the female psyche in the post-war period are explored, such as the lack of adequate medical care, possible risks to life and honour, and discrimination and neglect of women’s mental health conditions.
