The formation of the Third Bulgarian State, its subsequent development, the Union of the Principality of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia, the dethronement of Prince Alexander of Battenberg, and the independence of the country are examined through the prism of the complex and contradictory diplomatic relations between Sofia and Berlin.
