Abstract:

The fight against crime and countermeasures to violence were among the main concerns of the young Bulgarian state after the Liberation in 1878. That is why, already in the first months after 1879, the authorities commenced the creation of a modern police force which would ensure the observance of public order. This paper partially addresses the topics of crime and police violence in the city of Yambol and its surroundings during the second half of 1934 on the basis of the secret report of Chief Police Inspector Karageorgiev to the Minister of Interior Petar Midilev dated 22 September 1934. The aim is to shed more light on the issue of domestic crime and police violence in the region of Yambol in the second quarter of the last century
