Abstract:
The significance of the Danube River was evaluated in ancient times. Today it is very important as an internal waterway for Europe. However, it is not used effectively by the Bulgarian business. Bulgarian river ports are losing their cargo and their turnover is decreasing. The article tries to find what are the trends of the development of these ports, and what are the reasons for them. It discusses the problems of the Bulgarian Danube shipping and its place in the European transport system.
