The paper examines the socialist past of Bulgaria – memorials, monuments, museums, places of remembrance from the recent past of the country as resource for tourism development. Regardless of the political contradictions in post-socialist society the tourism can provide a unique product. The successful integration of the socialist past into the tourism product enriches the tourism offer, diversifies and implements cultural tourism. The benefits are visible – this kind or type of tourism promotes employment, regional economic growth and prosperity of the private business sector.
