In recent decades, the healthcare reforms implemented in Bulgaria have failed to contribute significantly to the improvement of the population‘s health status and quality of life. The accumulated issues within the healthcare system are numerous, while the proposed solutions remain partial and often contradictory. The deficiencies and weaknesses in the organization, financing, information systems, human resources, and overall functioning of the healthcare system underscore the urgent need for a radical transformation aimed at achieving equity, sustainability, and high-quality healthcare in line with best practices and international standards. This article, based on the analysis of current statistical data from national and international sources, outlines the key challenges and proposes strategic directions for the sustainable development of the Bulgarian healthcare system.
