Резюме:

The present report examines the evolution of the funds allocated for defense during the period of Bulgaria’s membership in the Warsaw Pact. Their dynamics during the transition to a market economy and the reasons leading to it have been studied. The second part of the study examines the current state of defense expenditures, the correlation between their amount and the country’s membership in NATO, along with the state of the international political and economic situation. Ultimately, conclusions and reasonable assumptions are made regarding the future size of defense spending as a percentage of the state budget of the Republic of Bulgaria and the sources of this funding.
