Abstract:

In fulfillment of its obligation to transpose Directive 2010/64/ EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 October 2010 on the right to interpretation and translation in criminal proceedings, the Bulgarian legislator has established an obligation for the court and the pre-trial authorities to provide written translation of the indictment of an accused who does not speak Bulgarian. This ensures the defendant’s irrevocable right to learn what he is accused of and on what facts and evidence.
