Abstract:

The „non bis in idem” principle is one of the general principles of contemporary law. Even if formulated in many different ways, the principle can be found in any modern legal system. According to this principle, no person shall be punished for the same crime or administrative violation more than once. This fundamental rule has existed since ancient times, but remains relevant till present day.
