Abstract:
The paper presents the voyage of Emperor John VII to Genoa in 1389–1390 escorted by his mother Maria-Kyratza. He needed allies in this venture, (the crown of the Empire) whom he first sought in Genoa. Having been given support, in all probability John VII returned to Byzanium. In Consantinople the citizens were getting ready for the approaching siege. On the night between 13th and 14th April the city gate was opened letting in the usurper with the army. Accordingly to the author‘s opinion he returned to Bizantium after having crossed Bulgarian lands – the Tzardom of Ivan Srazimir. The latter gave his support to John VII.
