Abstract:

The Turlaks, or Torlaks, are believed to be an old native population inhabiting the Northern border zone between Bulgaria and Serbia. They speak a specific dialect of Bulgarian, and have preserved their old traditional folk culture. The article presents their autumn-winter holidays. The most celebrated holidays in the autumn are St. Dimitar’s day, Mishin day, St. Archangel Michael’s day, Mratintsi. The most celebrated holidays in the winter are St. Andrey’s day, Ignajden, Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year, Vasil’s day, Jordan’s day, Ivan’s day, Grandmother’s day,St. Trifon’s Day.
