This publication presents the emergence and organization of one of the most ancient arts – theatre. The logical pinnacle of the Bulgarian National Revival culture began in 1856. The appearance of Krastyo Stoyanov Pishurka who initiated and organized the first theatrical performances in the town of Lom – Long-Suffering Genoveva and Velizarieva Opera, is of particular importance. Due to a lack of sources, these earliest performances raise a number of questions. The most important one is which city can be called the cradle of the Bulgarian theatre. The dispute is between two old cultural centres – Lom and Shumen. Relying on a few but reliable sources leads to the conclusion that they took place in Lom in 1856.
