At the end of 2019, exactly one century has passed since the death of grocer Ivan Stoyanov – one of the most influential educators and ecclesiastical figures in the town of Provadia in the second half of the 19th century. Along with the development of his commercial and entrepreneurial activities after the Liberation from Ottoman rule, he became the largest Provadian donor, earmarking serious sums for the development of education and culture, and for strengthening the Bulgarian national spirit in the difficult months after the end of World War I when the country experienced its second national disaster in less than a decade.
