The article discusses the problem concerning the number of participants
in the consolidated detachment (cheta) of Hadzhi Dimitar and Stefan Karadzhata.
A review is made of the memoires of the participants and their associates, of press
releases from events, as well as of reports from foreign consuls and official authorities.
On this basis, it has been concluded that the currently accepted number of troops,
which varies between 124 and 128 people, is the result of official Turkish propaganda
(Midhat Pasha).
A comparison of the data from the official press and official reports, as well as the
memoires of those who had seen the chetniks off, leads the authors to the conclusion
that it consisted of between 150 and 180 people. Memoires of persons close to the
revolutionaries and official reports lead to the conclusion that it consisted of 179 to
183 people. A new, updated list of participants is also attached.
