Резюме:
The article offers a viewpoint on the terminological apparatus in the study of slavery in Medieval Bulgaria. Special attention is paid to the terms “rob” and “rab” (both meaning some degree of dependence equal to “slave”) used in written sources in different contexts. The author presents specific examples of indicating a person's dependence on a person or an institution. The use of the term “rab” undoubtedly represents a person's dependence on God, regardless of his social, property, or legal status. The phrase “rab [servant] of God” unequivocally indicates the person’s affiliation to Christianity.
