Abstract:

The main theme of the monography of Veselina Valkanova is design of the Book: the elements, the spaces, and principles of composition of the oldest media. The accent is over typography by complex analysis of the micro- and macro-typography and applied method over cover of the book, the solution of the text, titles pages, different types of the texts and products. The styles, methods, which outline directions, trends, and the perspectives of the development of the graphic image of the book are given by the symmetric, harmonic, balanced classical compositions and the convention of the typography of the book by the beginning of typography to our days, by one hand, and the other – the visual experiments of the modernism and the vanguard design styles since beginning of XX-st century, and as well as the creative searches of the post-modern designers, deconstruction, demonstrations of the power of the visual manipulation and unlimited freedom, the personal interpretation. The monography is very useful for researchers, students, postgraduates and professionals of the area of the print communications, book publishing and media.
