Abstract:

The argument of this article was shaped up by a metaphorical West- European historiographic vision of the image of woman as memory. The text traces the possibilities and impossibilities in the context of the Bulgarian Revival-period historiography to reproduce this image. The focus of my discussion is Paisii Hilendarski’s “Istoriya Slavyanobolgarska”, contrasted with other historical compositions by Bulgarians and foreigners who were Paisii’s predecessors or contemporaries, between 1601s and 1792s, and compared to Bulgarian literary works of the Revival period written in the decades between 1840s and 1870s.
