Abstract:

This text reveals the relation between literature and journalism, fact and fiction, objective and subjective journalism. New Journalism, which developed in the USA in the late 1960s, became the common term used to describe the type of writing for newspapers in that period. Telling the story through scene by scene construction, full dialogue, a third-person perspective and the great significance of detail – these are elements which journalists borrowed from literary fiction to describe changes in the world. This type of journalism reads like a novel or a short story (Tom Wolfe), but the style, based on both literature and journalism, is not typical only of that period and in that country. Many journalists gather information from reality and deal with it just like an artist would do. That is why theorists prefer the term literary journalism (rather than new journalism), when they describe the usage of novelistic techniques in journalism. Publicism is the term used in Bulgaria with a similar meaning. This paper attempts to identify a modern tendency of writing in a personal manner for newspapers (the case of the Bulgarian weekly “Kapital Light”) or for the Web (blogs and online editions of newspapers).
