Short Paper: "Science and Work” for the Formation of thе “Tarnovo Wave”

Abstract:

This text focuses on a phenomenon from the second half of the 20th century which has remained in the annals of literary history as “the Tarnovo wave”. The term “Tarnovo wave” is an attempt to outline and designate a literary circle, which formed at a regional level, however gained national significance. It is not accidental that its appearance is associated with the late 1960s, immediately after the University of Veliko Tarnovo was founded. The University created a tradition and maintained continuity over generations of poets, writers and critics. The same applies for the University newspaper “Science and Labour” – its pages became the breeding ground for this truly remarkable generation of poets. Thanks to the “Science and Labour” paper young authors gained self-esteem, and learned to bear the burden of an author’s responsibility. That’s why we have reviewed and commented on the early publications of K. Kovacheva, M. Georgiev, T. Klisurov, P. Parushev and B. Hristov. Special attention merits B. Hristov for starting and steadfastly running his “Wings” column. Their publications in the University’s newspaper, bear the promise of a bright future. Evidence of the successful development of the five friends and poets are their debut books. The collections of poems “You must exist”, “Village”, “South Station”, “Island” and “Evening trumpet” are their bid as budding authors.
