Abstract:

This article is an analytical study of the elements of initiation through a comparison of their representation in the fairy tales of Pushkin and in traditional Bulgarian folk tales, with parallels to initiation rites in Africa and Australia, where transition rituals are still practiced by certain communities. The ultimate aim of this study is to prove that using the fragments of initiation we could restore the mythologicalpicture of the world as it was seen by people living before the conception of the first fairy tales; i.e., the elements of initiation are also viewed as different layers of historical development.
