Abstract:

The aim of the current article is to present the contributions of Bulgarian scholars to the recognition of Partenii Pavlovich’s Autobiography. The digest of research literature starts with the work of J. Ivanov. He is the first to discover the meaning of Partenii’s personality in terms of the spiritual and historical development of Southern Slavic people. The author comments P. Dinekov’s contribution for including Partenii in the list of 19th century Bulgarian writers. Studies by many other authors are alsotaken into account, including that of P. Boyadzhiev which is currently the only existing holistic study of P. Pavlovich’s life and creative work. This publication also outlines the direction for future interpretations of Partenii’s character – a sufferer in life and yet a man of action
