Abstract:
The text reviews the ethos of the Bulgarian revolutionaries Zahary Stoyanov and Stoyan Zaimov, displayed in
the contradiction between word and action in 1876. It outlines the ambiguous appraisals in the works of the
two authors, especially with regard to the question of whether it is appropriate to use irony in writings about
people and events playing key role in the struggle for Bulgarian liberation from the Ottoman rule. This publication
presents the first part of the exposition which will be continued in the next issue of this journal.
