Abstract:

The text reviews the ethos of the Bulgarian revolutionaries Zahary Stoyanov and Stoyan Zaimov, displayed in the contradiction between words and action in 1876. It outlines the ambiguous appraisals in the works of the two authors, especially with regard to the question of whether it is appropriate to use irony in writings about persons and events playing a key role in the struggle for Bulgarian liberation from Ottoman rule.
