Abstract:
The article examines the relationship between the act of storytelling and argumentation in the parliamentary rhetoric of right-wing populists in Bulgaria. Attention is given to the concept of topos within the framework of argumentation theory and discourse linguistics. The functions of narrative as described in classical and modern rhetoric are discussed, with emphasis on the role of narrative structures in political communication. Plenary speeches by members of the Bulgarian party “Vazrazhdane” are analysed, focusing on two types of narratives and their role within political argumentation.
