Abstract:

The paper analyses the translations and reception of A. Dalchev, the well-known Bulgarian poet of the twentieth century, in Slovene and Croatian. In both literatures, A. Dalchev is represented by a small selection of translated poems (the number of Slovene translations is more limited), characterised by different translation approaches – from predominantly text-oriented translations to translations that also follow the sound and prosodic features of the original. Studies on A. Dalchev’s reception are relatively rare (more numerous in Croatian than in Slovene). They include, for example, various biographical notes, analyses, and references in surveys of Bulgarian literature and translations from Bulgarian, which acquaint readers with key facts about the author’s life, work, and significance in Bulgarian literature. In the case of A. Dalchev’s reception in Slovenia and Croatia, it is also necessary to take into account the relatively marginal position of translated Bulgarian literature within the target literary polysystems
