Abstract:
The article examines the function of the Genoa topos in the eponymous poems by A. Dalchev and L. Sinisgalli, as well as in Dalchev’s translation of the Italian poet’s text. It highlights the differences in the poetic interpretation of Genoa by the two authors. The study outlines two opposing mechanisms of poetic appropriation of urban space – an objective-mythological one in Dalchev and a subjective-hermetic one in Sinisgalli. It also attempts to account for the change of the original title in Dalchev’s translation in the context of his aesthetic and poetic strategy.
