Abstract:
The article examines lexical elements derived from the names of famous people or figures from works of art who have left their mark on Italian culture, art, history, science, and politics. Some of them the Bulgarian language has borrowed from Italian, and others it has created according to its own word-formation models. Most often, proper names give rise to a new common noun to designate all those possessing the same characteristics, whether physical, moral, or behavioral, followed by newly formed adjectives, rarely by verbs. Deonomastic derivatives are used by the media and in oral communication, and their use is characterized by high expressiveness and evaluativeness.
