DOUBLE-BLIND PEER REVIEW PROCEDURE FOR SOCIETAS CLASSICA

The Editorial board of Societas Classica has enrolled prominent scientists to conduct external double-blind peer review.

In order to comply with the principle of anonymity, the reviewers receive manuscripts after the author's name was erased both from the text of the paper and from the properties of the electronic document. A reviewer who does not feel sufficiently qualified in the subject matter treated in a certain manuscript, or is unable to prepare the review in due time, immediately informs the editors, and they consign the manuscript to another reviewer.

During the evaluation process, the reviewers fill in a specific review form and in its final part express their unambiguous opinion on whether the submitted manuscript should be rejected or accepted (without corrections, with some necessary emendation and without second review, or after a second review when recommended necessary corrections are done). In case the manuscript is rejected by one of the two reviewers, it shall be delivered to an arbitrator whose positive evaluation is a necessary precondition for continuation of the procedure.

After the submission of the review forms, editors inform the author of the reviewers' opinion and, if necessary, provide the author with the final part of the review to make the recommended corrections. The author should return the edited version of the manuscript within two weeks. The author's name and affiliation are added to the text, and after pre-press and page setting is done, the author receives his article to authorize it. Only minor alterations of the text are permissible at this stage.

The present double-blind peer review procedure is applied to all manuscripts submitted for publication in Societas Classica.
