Abstract:

Ancient Christian philosophy is an extremely important yet underappreciated field in Bulgarian theological literature. This is especially true for the period up to 1989 when there were no translations of significant ancient sources, and studies in Bulgarian language were often influenced by Western, mainly German, critical literature, repeating non-Orthodox views accordingly. The number of translations increased significantly immediately after the beginning of the 1990s, thus becoming the most prominent reason for the wide development of ancient Christian philosophy studies in our country. Nevertheless, this development is associated with numerous challenges and even some negative phenomena. The present article discusses what precisely the current state of translation and research literature in our country is: themes, starting points, ideas, challenges, problems, prospects.
