Abstract:

The aim of this paper is to summarize the features of Modern Greek linguistic terminology and to review the main online dictionaries of Modern Greek linguistic terms. Research shows that with regard to their origin Modern Greek linguistic terms can be divided into two main groups: domestic terms and loanwords. Loanwords are of three types: internationalisms, calques and semantic loanwords. Further, the paper examines four online dictionaries of Modern Greek linguistic terms: the glossary of the Center for the Greek Language, the dictionary of the University of Ioannina, the dictionary of the Department of German Language and Philology (Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki) and the dictionary of the Portal for the Greek Language. The dictionaries are presented in terms of content (types of vocabulary entries – traditional linguistic terms, modern linguistic terms, domestic linguistic terms, linguistic fields of origin, etc.) and organization (structure of vocabulary entries, database search possibilities, etc.).
