Abstract:

The present work sheds light on a practice, based on the wholistic view of Japanese culture and language, carried out in the classes of practical Japanese language at Veliko Tarnovo University, Bulgaria. The course was designed at the Japanese Foundation in 2011and implemented for the first time in 2012 at Veliko Tarnovo University. The purpose of the paper is to analyze the practice and its effect from the point of view of the participants and the Japanese language lecturers and to explore further possibilities for such practices. From theoretical and practical point of view the distinct features of the present course are as follows: 1) Language and culture are treated as a whole although stress is laid on culture, and 2) The program is designed according to the so called Standard for Japanese Language Education (2010).
