Abstract:
Eight bilingual inscriptions – five burial and three dedicatory attest to the Romanization of the population settled between the Danube and the Balkan ranges. The burial inscriptions are found in Marcianopolis, Odessos, Novae, Butovo and Gorna Oriahovitsa while the two of dedicatory inscriptions are found in the region of Mezdra and the last one in the region of Abritus. The bilingual inscription from Novae differs from the rest in its form – epigram – the only one from the province of Lower Moesia. The order of the texts, in the two languages, preferred by the dedicators, use of the standard epigraphic rules, uncomplete translation in some of them is the indication for the degree of Romanization. The number of the bilingual inscriptions (3) from the area between rivers Osam and Yantra support the opinion that this area bears evidence for the most strongly demonstrated Romanization.
