Abstract:

The current article is an attempt to historically track the essential moments in the introduction of banking regulations in Bulgaria1. The different periods are successively examined – from the implementation of the first regulatory documents during the wars and the Great Depression to the current regulatory requirements imposed by globalization in all areas of public life, particularly in the banking sector. Emphasis is placed on the main changes brought about by Bulgaria’s accession to the European Union, which require the synchronization of Bulgarian and European legislation, especially in the field of assessment and management of banking risks.
