Abstract:
The current state of the cattle breeding in the Republic of Bulgaria for the period 2009/2011 year was examined.
The period is characterized by parallel economic crisis in Bulgaria and the EU, which influences on the status of cattle
breeding, its structure and potential. The objects of this article are the indicators: numbers of dairy cows, average milk
yield, total production of cow milk, number of beef and veal cows and meat production from cattle in carcass weight.
The purpose of this article is to analyze trends in cattle breeding and to identify recommendations for its
development on the basis of comparative and a retrospective analysis of the above parameters.
The development of beef cattle breeding as an alternative is necessary due to the low level of meat production
in the country.
A comparative and retrospective analysis for identifying the trends in cattle breeding in the Republic of Bulgaria
for the period 2009 – 2011 have been used.
