Abstract:
Human knowledge is a unified twofold process of divine-human synergy. Although it is difficult to define different stages or to situate different abilities in it by virtue of St. Maximus’ words, this text presents one of the highest stages of discursive knowledge (as seen basically in Mystagogia) namely the operation of the mind and its final goal – the knowledge of the Truth (the theoretical part of the human knowledge). Truth as the limit of any human efforts to enter in communion with God is seen in its regulative function. One of the important features that St. Maximus makes here is the use of the specific term of heksis – the disposition (predisposition) of the soul in this motion. With respect to all this the two kind of philosophy are revealed – the human knowledge and its limits of human wisdom and the philosophy that searches the Wisdom of God.
