Abstract:

Apostolic Canon 34 constitutes one of the primary canons in the canonical tradition of the Church with regard to defining the Church structure and organization. Its formulation has been the subject of various canonical history analyses, including ones within the interconfessional dialogue. The present paper seeks to examine this canon from a different angle: in the context of the relations between person and community in the Church, and as a formulation regulating the relationship between the Church ministries (=charismata) in the body of the Church. In the first part, an attempt is made to interpret the canon in terms of its formulation which is based on the triadological dogma, while in the second part the person-community relationship is regarded on the basis of Orthodox Christian ecclesiology.
