Abstract:
John Philoponus is much more famous as a commentator and a critic of Aristotle than as a theologian. Although there are recent studies concerning his theological work, many aspects of his opinion are not completely clarified. In this article we tried to determine the context of Philoponus’ theological opinion and the reasons which led him to actively support monophysite Christology. We also tried to examine the terminological and philosophical reasons which led to unacceptable conclusions, particularly in the field of Triadology and those conclusions were the reason why he was condemned by Monophysites.
