The Church‘s Magisterium and the Tradition in Yves Congar‘s Tradition and Traditions: A Critical Review

Abstract:

Back in the sixties, the famous French theologian Yves Congar wrote his extensive and elaborate study addressing ecclesiological aspects of the important theological issue of Tradition. In the present paper, I will try to show that in this important work there is a tension between Congar’s fundamentally important concept of sacramental ontology and the view that it is necessary to have institutionalized Magisterium in the Church.
