Abstract:

According to the letters of Michael Cerullarius the Schism of 1054 is not a significant event. It is represented as an occasional quarrel between two small groups of clerics. It is obvious that the theological points of disagreement are not in the focus of the spiritual experience of the both traditions – Roman and Constantinopolitan. The Patriarch attempts to accuse for the schism his western counterpart and to convince the Antiochian Patriarch Petrus to cut off his communion with Rome. Nevertheless, until the 4th Crusade the interactions and contacts do not stop and usually the partners from both sides do not emphasize on the anathemas.
