Abstract:

Throughout the 18th century, the doctrine of the proportions of the human figure follows the „ancient model“, which is the main method of teaching in the fine arts academies. What’s interesting is that during this period both models are accepted and combined – the „ideal“ beauty, that of the ancient Greek statues and the „real“ beauty. A harmony between the idealization of figure and nature. However, the anatomical manuals for artists continue to use mainly the images of ancient figures, represented as a bone and muscular system, and also as an ekorshes.
