Abstract:

On 26 January, Konstantin Kisimov Music and Drama Theatre in Veliko Tarnovo presented the first premiere production of 2026: The Thessaloniki Conspirators, marking the professional debut of director Maria Genova and a significant portion of her creative team. The production cannot easily be isolated from either the ensemble’s preceding achievements or its subsequent developments, a circumstance that both presupposes and demands a holistic mode of analytical engagement. It is precisely this approach that the present text attempts to undertake — within the necessary broader interpretative framework, yet without losing sight of detail — through the use of a hybrid academic genre that brings together immediate operative criticism and scholarly research.
