Abstract:

Children’s publications that appeared in the old capital Veliko Tarnovo and the region after World War I until the turning point of 1944 occupy an important place in the cultural history of the country. The longest-running Veliko Tarnovo publication, aimed primarily at children and young people, was the newspaper Vazdarzhatelche (1927—1950), followed by the newspapers Sladkodumche (1933—34) and, a little later, the short-lived Roden kray (1939—42). All of them were scientific and entertaining newspapers for children and students, featuring decorations, illustrations, and images. As the main media at that time, these newspapers had an extremely important educational and cultural function for the younger generation. The aspirations of progressive minds over the years to improve and enrich the vision and content of the publications as a whole are evident. In parallel with the visual arts and artistic design, we will also trace significant events from the period for Tarnovo and the region, we will examine the role of authors, publishers, designers, printers, and key artists.
