Abstract:

During the epoch of the Bulgarian Revival, a new kind of home culture was established. Gradually traditional folk culture gives way to European. This process reflected in changes in the residential architecture, furnishings and decoration of the home. The lounge turns into the center of the house and its ceiling is the most suitable place for decorative carving. During the Revival period, carving ceilings, apart from residential architecture, are also widespread in many churches and monasteries. The wood-carved ceilings are a characteristic manifestation of Renaissance worldview and aesthetics, helping to invent, transform and further develop the tradition in the work of a carver of this era.
